A Brief History Of The Club
Halifax Hockey Club is the oldest Hockey Club in Yorkshire Est. 1891
Apart fromits first season Halifax Hockey Club played at Thrum Hall from its foundation till 1922. When it moved to Elland in 1927 it
began playing “Flick Hockey” which we now know as “Indoor Hockey” the club temporarily changed its name to Elland Hockey Club in the
late 1970’s. A Ladies section was formed in 1979 and colts training began in the early 1980’s. In 1987 Halifax Hockey Club moved back to
Thrum Hall, Halifax but as there was already a Halifax Ladies club in the town, the club became Halifax (Men’s) & Calder (Ladies) Hockey Club
In 1995 Halifax Ladies amalgamated with the club and at the end of the following season the club dropped the Calder name to regain its proud
Name of Halifax Hockey Club
During the 1990’s Halifax Hockey Club took the progressive decision to try and get all teams onto “Astroturf”. This meant the men played at
Keighley and the Ladies played in Bradford. With the construction of 2 pitches in the Borough at the end of the 1990’s the teams returned to
play in the town
Thrum Hall was sold at the end of 2001 and a brand new Purpose Built Cricket Pitch, Club House and two Astroturf’s were completed at the
Beginning of September 2007.
